“Pick Up the Pieces” is an instrumental with occasional shouts. It was written by Robbie McIntosh (sax), Hamish Stuart (guitar), and AWB, an abbreviation of the band; Average White Band. The members all came from that place not exactly known for funky music; Scotland. They got together in 1972 and lasted until 1983 when they officially separated. Even then, the group would get back together for some reunions. The last reunion was just in 2023. They said it would be their last reunion.

The song got up to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of Feb. 16 – 23. Then the next week it was on the top of the Cash Box chart.

The listing on YouTube for this video says that it was from “American Bandstand” but it really from one of Dick Clark’s New Year’s programs.
