Caricature of Stanley E. Hunting in Club Men of Rochester in Caricature (1914)

Last week I finished up The Hunting Company Catalog, No. 15 (1923). It actually took a few weeks to scan and cleaning up this catalog as it almost 525 pages. It is a catalog for a Rochester distributor of plumbing, heating, gas, steam and water, supplies. Most people probably won’t be interested in this but it is one of those odd things that needs to be saved for it’s historic value.

The company was started by Stanley E. Hunting. By the time that this catalog was published in 1923 his son, Maro S. Hunting, was vice-president of the company and his son, James Frederick Hunting, was the treasurer of the company. By 1940 Stanley Hunting has retired to St. Petersburg, Florida and Maro Hunting is president of the Company. Stanley Hunting would die in St. Petersburg in 1947. I found a reference that the company still existed in 1973 but not sure what happened to it after that.

When I got this catalog it smelled very bad of cigarette smoke. After handling it for just a few minutes I had to wash the smoke smell off my hands. I put it in a sealed bag with some moth balls and kept it closed for two months. It still has a slight smoky smell but not as bad as it was.
