Hit Songs of 1976 – #6

Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel had many hits but they eventually broke up. Paul Simon continued writing songs and performing as a solo artist. He had many hits over the years but the only one of his song go to #1 on the record charts was “50 Ways to Leave Your Lover.” He wrote the song after his divorce from his first wife, Peggy Harper. It was on the top of both the Billboard and Cash Box charts for 3 weeks (Feb. 1 – 21, 1975.

The drummer on this song is Steve Gadd who was born in Irondequoit and attended the Eastman School of Music. He played with Chuck Mangione and a very long list of other musicians over the years.

Paul Simon is touring again this summer at large outdoor venues around the country.
