Last week I scanned four issues of Rochester Trust News; Aug. 1943, Dec. 1943, Jan. – Feb. 1944, and July – Aug. 1944. As these are from the time during World War II, they have lots of letters from soldiers back to the bank. So if you ever wondered what it was like to me in the military during the war then you will see that there lots of varied experiences. Some of the men never went overseas. Instead they served at military posts here in the US. Roger Ebert (no; not the movie guy) ended up in Persia (present day Iran).
These news magazines only have a printed cover. The inner pages look like they were done on mimeograph machine. That machine would cut a stencil and then print the pages from the stencil. After some pages were printed the quality ended up bad. The letter “e” would loose that thin center line and start to look more like an “o.” People can figure out correct words much better than the OCR used on the scanned pages.
I liked these employee magazines so much that there will be more of them next week.
