Preview of 1950 Census Website

The National Archives released this video, below, that shows how the 1950 Census website was designed. You will be able to search by name but their search results will only include what is in the name field. In most cases a surname is only listed for the head of household and then first names of the rest of the family; unless there are other members of a family with another surname. But as they will have a method for correcting names, you can then add the surname for each family member.

You will also be able to search by enumeration district.

You will get a “film strip” at the bottom of search results so you can go through page by page if you wish.

You will be able to download an individual page, but they didn’t say in what format that page will be.

There is a “slide deck” of the video at: The 1950 Census Website: Design, Development, & Features to Expect.

They still haven’t said what the web address will be. You will have to wait until 12:01 am on April first.
