he biggest thing that I scanned last week was New York World’s Fair: The World of Tomorrow. It is a booklet of views from the 1939 Fair. That Fair did continue into 1940 but some of the exhibits did change in 1940. In part that was because Grmany invaded Poland in September 1939 thus starting World War II. Japan did have a building in 1939. Not sure if they returned in 1940.
Seeing as it isn’t local history, the link will take you to the Internet Archive where you can view it or download it.
This booklet was published by Tichnor Brothers who also published postcards at that time. Most of the postcards for the Fair were drawings of buildings so that they would be ready when the Fair opened. This booklet has more photos than drawings. I know an exact date for one of the photos. The building for the exhibit of Standard Brands has a big date on their tower that says “May 20.”
The second item scanned was a Hand Book from Franklin High School (1952-3). It has the school’s rules and regulations, list of the faculty, and floor plans. There is also a page of school cheers. It is only 4 x 6 inches.
Then I also was able to scan an issue of Triangle News from Central Trust Company. It is an employee news magazine. There isn’t any date listed on the title page but from references in the booklet, I can see it is from sometime in 1971. Rochester Public Library has issues of this from 1965 – 1967. Central Trust was bought by M&T Bank in 1992.
