Another “One Hit Wonder” from George McCrae. He never had a another hit after this best selling song in spite of the fact that he has released over 12 albums.

The song was on the top of the Cash Box Top 100 chart for the week of July 14 – 20. It was at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 2 weeks ( July 7 – 20).

The song was written and produced by Harry Wayne Casey (KC) and Richard Finch of KC and the Sunshine Band. The backing track was recorded in 45 minutes as a demo and featured guitarist Jerome Smith of KC and the Sunshine Band, with Casey on keyboards and Finch on bass and drums. Casey could not reach the high notes that were required for the song. McCrae just happened to be in the studio and they enlisted him to record the song.
