Hit Songs of 1974 – #48

What do you get when you put together Kung Fu and a disco beat? You get “Kung Fu Fighting” by Carl Douglas. It was a monster hit all around the planet selling a total of 11 million records worldwide. Carl put out 3 albums between 1974 and 1978 but this was his only hit single. This was during a time when martial arts films were very popular in the US and around the world.

The song was at #1 on the Cash Box Top 100 list for the week of Dec. 8 – 14. Then on the Billboard Hot 100 it was on top for two weeks (Dec. 1 – 14). The song was covered by CeeLo Green with Jack Black and The Vamps for the first and third films of the Kung Fu Panda franchise respectively.
