Today is the anniversary of the first appearance of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show on Feb. 9, 1964. I know for sure that I did see them live on that date. I was sitting about 6 feet in front of our TV. They were the show three times. I only remember seeing them play twice. Maybe I missed the third time they were on. I just can’t be sure as it was so long ago.
So did I see other events live?
Lee Harvey Oswald was shot live on TV on Nov. 23, 1963 just a day after he killed President Kennedy. Did I see that happen live or not? Schools were closed and I was home. But I’m not sure if I saw it live or later that day.
I missed seeing Neil Armstrong stepping out on the moon in 1969. I was in college and the only TV was in the rec. room of the dorm. I went to bed without seeing it live. I would have seen it replayed on the news the next day.
There are events that happen that you swear you saw live but probably didn’t. It is even harder now as major events are played many times after the actual event.
