Hit Songs of 1970 – #5

“I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” was written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for the musical Promises, Promises. Dionne Warwick made it a hit. For the week of Feb. 1 – 7 it got up to #6 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100 charts.

Dionne may have had a great musical career but she only had one song ever make it to the top of the record charts. That was in 1974 with “Then Came You” (with The Spinners). Nevertheless she has won these Grammy Awards:

  • 1969 – “Do You Know the Way to San Jose”
  • 1971 – “I’ll Never Fall in Love Again”
  • 1980 – “I’ll Never Love This Way Again”
  • 1987 – “That’s What Friends Are For” (with Elton John, Gladys Knight & Stevie Wonder)
  • 2019 – Lifetime Achievement Award

Besides those wins she was also nominated for 9 other Grammy Awards.

Dionne comes from a musical family; Whitney Houston was her cousin. Another cousin of Dionne is Leontyne Price of the Metropolitan Opera.
