The Carpenters have their second hit of 1970 with “We’ve Only just Begun.”

The song was written by by Roger Nichols (music) and Paul Williams (lyrics). A short version was first used as commercial for Crocker National Bank in California with Paul Williams singing on that commercial. Richard Carpenter asked Paul Williams if the there was a complete song and he said their was. The Carpenters version became a million selling hit.

“We’ve Only just Begun” was the #2 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for 4 weeks (Oct. 25 – Nov. 21). It couldn’t knock The Jackson off the top of that chart. It did become the #1 song on the Cash Box Top 100 chart for just the week  of Nov. 1 – 7.

They released “Merry Christmas Darling” for the 1970 Christmas season. You will hear that song played this year on some radio stations that play Christmas music.
