KC and the Sunshine Band were formed in 1973 by Harry Wayne Casey (KC) and Richard Finch who played bass with the band. The first hit by the duo was a song they wrote, “Rock Your Baby,” which wasn’t by the group but singer George McCrae.
The group’s first of many hits was “Get Down Tonight.” It was on the top of the Billboard chart for the week of Aug. 24 – 30, 1975. It was at #1 on the Cash Box chart for two weeks (Aug. 17 – 30).
Disco was very popular in the late 70s but interest faded in the early 80s. The group officially dissolved in 1984. But interest in Disco has never completely died. The group still tours regularly. Visit their official website and you can see where they will be. Note also that they participate in some Disco cruises where you can dance your heart out.
