Lots of Small Items

Last week was time to scan  some of the small paper items that I have. You may not like all of them but maybe one or two might be of interest to you. These are in the order that I scan them (random).

  • Program and photos of the K.P.A.A. Kodaskaters show, Fun on Wheels, Feb. 16 & 17, 1963. K.P.A.A. was the Kodak Park Activities Association and one of their clubs was a skating club.  In this are the program for a show that they gave and 21 8×10 photos of the show. The show was in the gym in Building 28 which now houses the Kodak Theatre. Before one show at that Theatre last year, I saw girls playing volleyball.
  • The Stylus; Feb, 12, 1954; the student newspaper of State Teachers College of Brockport (AKA SUNY Brockport). This is just a one issue teaser. Most of the issues of this newspaper from 1928 to 2014 are on the NYS Historic Newspapers website. You can search just this student newspaper or all of Monroe County or the whole State.
  • To the Lot Owners of Mount Hope Cemetery, Rochester, N. Y. (1910). This one is a proposal for a subscription for perpetual care to lot owners in the cemetery. There is a 4-page name list. I think that they were lot owners that had already given to the perpetual care fund. Now all the lots in Mt. Hope supposedly have perpetual care although some only get mowed twice a year.
  • Presentation of Flags to the Public Schools of Rochester, N. Y. (1899). This is the largest booklet with 60 pages. The Geo. H. Thomas Post, No. 4, G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) gave each public school in Rochester a US flag. Just the officers of the Civil War veteran’s group are given and a few of their speeches. There are programs for 8 schools listed that shows the names of students that gave patriotic talks.
  • Program for the Fourth of July Celebration, Rochester, N. Y. (1899). This was a special 4th as it was the one year anniversary of the Battle of Santiago (Cuba) in which the US defeated the Spanish fleet.
  • Annual Transfer of Flags (1893). Once the schools had flags, every year they appointed a new “Standard Bearer.” This program has names of student “Standard Bearer” in 1892 and the new ones for 1893.
  • Program for Flag Day Exercises (1917). This is just a single sheet. The program was given by the local Elks’ Club.
  • Program for the British Guards Band at Fitzhugh Hall on April 19, 1899.
  • Sanddrift, May 26, 1964. News from the Columbia (Girl’s) School in Rochester. They would later combine with a boys’ school to become Allendale-Columbia.
  • Program for My Fair Lady at Town & Country Playhouse in East Rochester; July 21 – 26, 1964. The two main stars were married and had minor roles on Broadway in a few shows.
  • Senior Week Program, 1964 at McQuaid Jesuit High School. I note that they had a Senior Ball at the Powers Hotel and then went to see another band at Holiday Inn from 2 – 4 AM.
  • Program for Annual Commencement Exercises, of McQuaid Jesuit High School, June 17, 1964 at Eastman Theatre. This includes a list of all the graduates that year.
