Over the last few days I reviewed all the chapters of the Genealogical Guide to Monroe County and updated most of the chapters. Some were minor updates and others like “Vital Records” have lots of changes. The vital record’s chapter had to be updated because all the indexes to NY State vital records came online in 2018.
One problem with links came from the Rochester Public Library that moved a bunch of their web pages. Other websites have changed some of their links over the last couple of years. All the links in the chapters should now be working. Can’t guarantee that they will work forever. Other websites like to move pages around.
You can view the chapters online (they are PDF files) or download them.
Dick,
God bless you and thank you for all your very useful contributions to genealogy in Rochester and NY.

Nice work!
Hi Dick,
Thank you!! I just read your introduction to the Vital Records pages, and I’m very grateful for how complete and interesting all the information is. I’m looking forward to exploring the other pages.
Today I’ve been working with the Vital Records from Brighton, 1847 – 1849 page, and I’ve found information about ancestors that led to further research.
Thank you for posting that information. Do you know if there is any information available anywhere for Brighton records in the early 1800’s?
Thank you for fun explorations!
Replacements for early vital records would be church records. Then probate records would show relationships at the time of death.
Hi. Thanks for replying. So far all I know about my ancestor’s brother is that he was a farmer and he died in Brighton in 1848. I had seen his name on the Vital Records page before, but today I was able to piece together some information from the Vital Records page and the Mt. Hope records to figure out who he was. I’m enjoying exploring all the information.
Hello again,
I wanted to let you know that this is one of the reasons your posts of “Newspaper Vitals” are important and appreciated.
I found my four times great grandfather among the names in the 1834 “Newspaper Vitals,” and the person I found in the Brighton Vitals Records page you posted was his son.
Thank you for making a difference and creating fun!
Hello again. I just discovered that you replied to my post about the 1834 Newspaper Vitals. The comments are closed there, so I wanted to say thanks here for the information about the Western Cemetery.
Your transcription of the date was correct. I have a copy of that record I ordered a while back from the RPL.
Has anyone ever done a list of Historical Societies in Monroe County?
Thanks for all you do, Dick.
Your dedication is unsurpassed and your oages are dearly appreciated by all of us who work away at finding our ancestors!
Thanks, Dick, for all your postings. We appreciate all the pages and updates that help us find our ancestors!
