Brian Hyland had a hit in 1970 with “Gypsy Woman.” Brian had his first hit record in 1960 with”Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polkadot Bikini.” He was only 16 at that time. In 1962 he had a more serious hit with the romantic “Sealed with a Kiss.” Then there were many lean years. “Gypsy Woman” helped to bring him fame again for a while. But fame would again be fleeting.

“Gypsy Woman” was an old song. It was written by Curtis Mayfield and recorded by his group the Impressions in 1961. Their version managed to make it to #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Brian’s version got up to #3 on the Cash Box Top 100 chart  for the week of Nov. 29 – Dec. 5, 1970. On the Billboard Hot 100 it was at #3 for two weeks ( Nov. 29 – Dec. 12).
