The 5th Dimension were back with another hit song at the end of 1970. “One Less Bell to Answer” was written by the prolific team of Burt Bacharach and Hal David. It was primarily a solo by Marilyn McCoo with the rest of the group doing backgrounds.

The group seemed to be on every TV show at that time. In this video they are appearing on Soul Train but they also appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and Tom Jones’ TV show .

“One Less Bell to Answer” got up to #2 on the Cash Box Top 100 chart for the week of Dec. 20 – 26. It peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two weeks (Dec. 20 – Jan. 2, 1971).

Marilyn McCoo and her husband Billy Davis Jr. would leave The 5th Dimension in 1975 and strike out on their own. Since then personnel of the group has changed many times. Only Florence LaRue remains from the original group line-up.
