New Uploads

I uploaded two completely different things this week.

First is The Rochester Savings Bank, 1831-1981: In Commemoration of Its 150 Years of Service (1982) compiled and edited by Susan T. Turri. This is a history of the bank and how it relates to the history of Rochester. There are a good number of pictures in this book. I had to fix the picture on page 38 (on right). It was flipped horizontally and I flipped it so it is now correct. It is the 2nd Monroe County Courthouse and that is the old Rochester City Hall on the right. The picture on page 75 is recorded as the University of Rochester. It is NOT! It probably got miss-identified because there is a dome in the center building. If you have any idea of what that building complex is, write in the comments.

In 1982 Rochester Savings Bank merged with Community Savings Bank to form Rochester Community Savings Bank. They were bought by Charter One Financial Corp. in 1997. They in turn were bought in 2004 by Citizens Financial (AKA Citizens Bank).

Freezing Foods is another booklet from RG&E. Other ones I have already scanned had recipes. This one tells you how freeze various kinds of foods. None of the RG&E booklets have a date on them. After I scanned this one I noticed that very faint on the cover someone had written “8/10/1965.” Digging on the internet I found that RG&E published many of these kinds of booklets. There was also another booklet published on freezing foods in the 1980s.

  1. Thank you, Dick, for uploading both of these. The RG&E booklet is interesting. Rochester Savings Bank, 1831 – 1981 includes lots of information about life in early Rochester, and that is fascinating. I know that some of my ancestors were in Rochester as early as 1817.
