On the record charts in 1973, Paul McCartney was at the top of the charts with “My Love.” Who knocked Paul off the top spot? George Harrison with his “Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth).” While both were with The Beatles George was only able to get one of his songs on each album. After The Beatles George was free to create as many songs as he wanted. He also explored many styles. In this song he played slide guitar that is more associated with blues style. This song was originally to be produced by Phil Spector but Phil was busy with other projects so George produced the song himself. That resulted in a much simpler sound.
“Give Me Love…” was at the top spot of the Billboard Hot 100 chart for the week of June 24 – 30. On the Cash Box Top 100 chart it was #1 for 2 weeks (June 24 – July 7).
