Katharine Hepburn did the play “The Philadelphia Story” a year before she did a movie of the same name. The picture is of Katharine in “As You Like It.”
La Argentinita (real name: Encarnación López Júlvez), a dancer, died just 8 months after appearing in Rochester.
Nelson Eddy gave a performance in 1944. Let me tell you my connection to him. My grandmother Jocelia (Buell) Halsey had a brother Theodore Buell that was a manager for Broadway and traveling shows. He married a soprano singer named Estella Birney that toured in various shows for about 10 years. The last show she was in, “The Magic Ring,” had another soprano; Jeanette MacDonald (I have a picture with both of them). Jeanette MacDonald went to Hollywood and was in 8 movies with Nelson Eddy.
I have a web page with a lot more theater programs.
My mother was crazy about Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald.
